Labor Day weekend traditionally marks the opening of collegiate soccer across the country. With approximately 103 SIMA alumni currently playing collegiately representing 63 colleges, many of them are ready to open their seasons this weekend.

Of the collegiate teams represented by alumni, there will be 37 season opening matches held this weekend, 33 of them will be set to play today, Friday, August 30. There will also be five alumni matchups to kick off the season including the highly anticipated Wake Forest University versus University of Central Florida match slated for later today in North Carolina. Bruno Lapa ’16 will be leading the charge for the Demon Deacons as they defend their turf against the Knights with Matt Douglass ’18 and Jeremy Di Lallo ’19.

Several of the teams are participating in tournament play to open their seasons. Weston King ’19 and his University of Louisville Cardinals will be making their debut on the ACC Network against Cleveland State tonight. They will be joined throughout the season by other ACC teams featuring SIMA alumni including Kentucky with Enrique Facusse ‘17, Clemson University with Nolan Lennon ’15, Malick Mbaye ’16, Nate Hall ’16, Justin Malou ’17, and Philip Mayaka ’19, and University of Pittsburgh with Edward Kizza ’17, Pierre Mane ’17, Rodrigo de Almeida ’18 and Jackson Walti ’18 just to name a few.

Many conferences are represented by our SIMA alumni and each division of colligate soccer including NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and NJCAA. Several of our alumni will be hitting the collegiate turf for the first time while others are already looking at their last season.
