Alumni Update: Rafael Andrade Santos named NCAA All-America

Montverde Academy Alumnus and Virginia Commonwealth University soccer phenom Rafael Andrade Santos was named NCAA All-America as a senior.

Montverde Academy Alumnus and Virginia Commonwealth University soccer phenom Rafael Andrade Santos was named NCAA All-America as a senior. 2017: SENIOR

  • Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year
  • Named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region First Team
  • Named to First Team All-Atlantic 10
  • Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week (9/5, 10/30)
  • Led the conference with 12 goals and 29 points, while also collecting five assists, all career high totals
  • Accounted for six of VCU's 12 game-winning goals
  • Appeared in 18 matches on the year, starting in 17
  • Scored the first two goals of the match in a 3-0 win at No. 9 Maryland on Oct. 24, including a rocket from 30 yards out. He also assisted the third goal, setting up Francesco Amorosino for a 53rd-minute tally
  • Notched his second multi-goal game of the year with two goals and an assist in the 4-1 win over St. Bonaventure in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinal on Nov. 5
  • Preseason All-Atlantic 10 Selection

2016: JUNIOR

  • Started all but one of his 19 game appearances
  • Had three goals and two assists on the year totaling eight points
  • Recorded a goal and an assist in 5-1 victory over Old Dominion (9/20)
  • Earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 Honors
  • Named to Second Team VaSID All-State
  • Named to NSCAA Third Team All-Region

2015: SOPHOMORE

  • Earned All-Atlantic 10 Second Team honors
  • Scored his second goal of the A-10 Tournament in a 1-0 win over Fordham (11/13)
  • Tallied his fourth goal of the season in a 4-0 victory in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals against top-seeded George Washington (11/12)
  • Credited with the assist on Jorge Herranz' game-winner in the thrilling 3-2 OT victory at Dayton (11/7)
  • Scored his first collegiate goal vs. Hartford (9/11) to start a streak where he scored in three consecutive games
  • Named to the STIHL All-Tournament Team (VCU finished the round-robin tournament 2-0 with wins over Hartford and Jacksonville)

2014: FRESHMAN

  • Named to the All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team after a stellar freshman season
  • Appeared in 11 games on the season, starting seven
  • Made his collegiate debut against Old Dominion on (9/26)
  • Recorded a career-high three shots versus Fordham at home in his first collegiate start (10/17)

PRIOR TO VCU:

  • Played for the Flamengo Futbol Club from 2003-11
  • Member of the 2011-12 Boa Vista FC team
  • Played at Montverde Academy from 2012-14 and was a two-time high school national champion
