At the closing of another historic FC MAST, hosted at the Montverde Academy Sports Complex from January 16-19, SIMA teams took home a Runners-Up trophy and claimed third in the U17 bracket and a third-place finish in the U19 bracket.

With several big-name college coaches in attendance, FC MAST was able to draw a crowd with interest in watching high levels of competitive talent.

In the U17 bracket, SIMA S.C. fell to Vaughan, from Canada, 2-0 in a close match. FC SIMA was about to hold 2SV to a 2-1 win to clench third place. In the U19 bracket, Vaughan beat out 2SV 4-0 to take home the championship and again, FC SIMA was able to pull out a third-place win.

Goals throughout the tournament came from several different scorers in their respected divisions. In the U17 bracket, FC SIMA netted seven goals and SIMA S.C. had eight. In the U19 bracket, FC SIMA claimed 15 goals, with eight coming from a win over OSA on day two, and SIMA S.C. ended with eight.

More than just soccer was under the spotlight at the U17 FC MAST Championship. Our MVA lower school cheerleaders and Monte the Eagle, our trusted mascot, made an appearance to rally the crowds and all the students in attendance.

“Now we have to go back to work and improve an entire unit and get better,” said Head Coach Mike Potempa when addressing his U17 team after the championship game.” This is why you come to SIMA, is to challenge yourself and compete and see where you’re at because these are all learning experiences for you. You should be proud of what you have done and where you are. My biggest goal for you is to see where end up when you’re time here is done.”
